Recently updated rules are coloured red.
1. GENERAL SITE RULES
1. GENERAL SITE RULES
1.1
Please keep checking these rules. Once a week should be all right, because (knowing me) I will be changing and adding new rules quite frequently.
1.2
When joining the forum, please have your display name as the full name of your character. For example, my Display Name is 'Rose Potter', which is the name of my character. If you don't know what you want to character before you join, or forget to do this, then it will be done for you when your character application is accepted. You can change your Display Name by clicking on the 'Profile' button in the menu bar, then clicking on 'Modify Profile'.
1.3
Try your best to be active, and please post a message in the 'holiday' section if you are going away for a while.
1.4
Power-playing, God-moding, and Mini-modding are not tollerated and will be deleted (Explanation of these terms can be found below).
2. CHARACTER RULES
2.1
You may only have one character per account. Although this means you can have more than one account to have different character, please don't have more than two. Don't worry too much about this, as we have a code in place which means you don't have to keep loging out and logging back in again.
2.2
Characters may be in more than one plot/board at any one time. You don't have to stick to one, but you can if you want to.
2.3
You must apply for your character on the 'Character Applications' board before you may roleplay on the site. If you try to post as your character before your application has been accepted, you will be sent a warning, and the post will be deleted.
2.4
Nobody is perfect! Please do not apply for a character who is a straight-A student, is absolutely stunning in appearance, has hundreds of friends, and is hated by no one. Trust me - nobody like that exists! So don't apply for them ^_^ Along the same lines, I will not allow every character to have an amazingly tragic past, as it will end up being very cliche.
2.5
Anyone may roleplay as a teacher. This does not mean that you can use a teacher as your character for the thread. What it does mean is that anyone may cause a teacher to speak and/or move whilst their character is talking to them.
2.6
You are permitted a total of 2 characters (please make sure you can keep up with them). For each new character, you must create a new account, and you must apply for each one in the same way as the first one.
2.8
Please follow the character application guide.
2.9
Your character may not be a werewolf, Veela, vampire etc.
2.10
Your character may not be a animagus or metamorphmagus unless express permission has been granted by an admin.
2.11
ALL characters are in their sixth or seventh year at Hogwarts, which means that they will turn 17 (or 18, if they are in their seventh year) during this school year (September 1st - August 31st).
2.11
If you want your character to be a descendant of a Canon character, please check any other Canon characters first, and make sure that yours will fit in. If you want to be a relative, you must ask permission first. I don't want the forum crawling with Canon-descendants, so please try and keep them to a minimum! Also, bear in mind that this is 200 years after the books are set, so unless your character is a direct descendant through the male line, your character won't likely have the same surname as the original Canon.
3. PERSONAL IMAGING RULES
3.1
Avatars can be up to 100 x 100 pixels. You must have one.
3.2
Signature images may be no larger than 660 x 180 pixels (Click here to see what size this is).
3.3
In your signature, you may only have either: one picture (or any size up to those already stated) and one line of text, or up to three lines of text with no picture.
3.4
If you go over any of these limits, your signature/avatar will be deleted by the admin.
3.5
Celebrities may be used for signatures to represent your character. Please make sure that you check the adopted celebrities here before creating your character!
3.6
Inappropriate images will be deleted, and you will be given a warning. If you continue to place these images on the forum, then you will be banned from the forum.
4. POSTING RULES
4.1
If you have not posted a single post after two weeks of having joined, your account will be deleted. However, if you join, but cannot apply for a character etc. for a while, please inform an admin so that your account isn't deleted.
4.2
Please keep all of your posts literate. This doesn't mean that you have to be exceptionally accurate in your spelling, but please bear in mind that you need to use some form of OOC for out of character posts, and please use whole words and not chat speak. We want to be able to understand what you're saying!
4.3
Please keep your posts fairly lengthy. You should post at least two good, long paragraphs in every IC post! This is for everyone's benefit; the more detail you put into your post, the better the next person can reply to you. There is also a character limiter in place (set at 800 characters, which is roughly 165 words -- not a lot!) in all IC boards.
4.4
The general board rating is PG-13. Cursing is permitted IC, and in moderation OOC. Derrogatory or degrading swearing is not permitted. Ever.
4.5
Along those same lines, flaming is not tolerated either. Flaming is a post intentionally made to put someone down, hurt them or make others think poorly of them. You will get one warning, then you're out.
4.6
Kissing is permitted within any age, details are not necessary, but if you do include excplicits, please put a warning in the title of your post so that younger members don't accidentaly stumble upon them!
4.7
Things on this site may turn violent at any point. If your character is in a fight, you may NOT kill off the other character unless its owner has given you express permission to do so. Also, please keep the level of violence down to a minimum. If you really have to get very violent (i.e. limbs coming off, and all that) please place a warning in the title of your thread.
4.8
Do not spam/scam on this board, because you will receive a warning and possibly be suspended.
4.9
Advertisements for other sites are not allowed, will be deleted if posted, and the person who posted them will be warned. If you want to advertise your Proboards forum, use the advertising board provided. No advertisements in signatures.
4.10
You must be at least semi-literate. If you use any chat speak in your IC posts, then I will send you a PM, and if you ignore me, then you may be suspended.
4.11
Please limit the amount of OOC you use in the RP boards. If you want to post a lot of out of character posts, then create a new thread in the correct OOC board.
4.12
Although fighting and offensiveness is allowed between characters (in the correct situations), it is NOT allowed between members. If any other member is harrassing you, then please inform me.
4.13
Your character may use violence against each other. However, if your character gets hurt, please ensure that they act as if they are hurt and don't just shrug off, say, a broken leg. Keep things realistic!
4.14
We RP in third person past tense. If you don't know what that means, this probably isn't the board for you. However, a quick explanation is that you are telling the story from outside's the character's mindset and as if the events have already happened.
5. OTHER RULES
5.1
You may discuss plots in the appropriate board. Try to keep all posts in the correct boards.
5.3
If you start a board, keep at it! Don't just post once and then forget about it, because other people will want to join in with you.
5.4
Always read all posts (taking extra care with the first) on any thread you wish to join. Make sure you get your facts (time, place, people) correct.
So that we know that you have read these rules, please answer the question in the character application form with "a turnip" (you will know which question it is when you see it!).
If you have any problems with any of these rules, or would like further explanation, please feel free to PM me!
