Distinguishing Features (if any): His nose is a bit crooked because his brother wacked him with a beaters bat. His brother isn't very good at Quidditch.
HISTORY
Mother: Arabella Malfoy, pureblood, would be 45, used to work in St Mungo's as a healer. She died only a year ago.
She was disowned by her friends and family when she married a muggle born.
Against traditional views of Malfoys, she was very nice, although always disliked by her family for her untraditional Malfoy views on life, A bit like Sirius and the rest of the Blacks. They were horrified when she got put into Gryffindor at school. She was the first Malfoy not to be put in Slytherin. They sent her a howler.
Father: Marcus Peterson, muggle born wizard, 45,works in the department of Magical Law Enforcement. He blames Derik for the death of his wife and barely ever sees him. He's totally wrapped up in his work and cares about very little else. Because of this Derik stays at school during the holidays. The summer holidays are always really awkward. He loves both his children dearly but never says so. He's still very hurt from Arabella's death.
Siblings: Bennie Peterson, 20 but has the brain of a child. As Derik always says when people joke about him "Its not his fault! He was born that way, so unless you like your face the way it is I'd shut up if I were you."
He loves Quidditch, although he's a terrible player. he doesnt completely understand the rules either, but rather makes them up as he goes along. He's very nearly a squib and never attended Hogwarts. He doesn't have a wand, but, like wizarding children, if he's really in trouble or scared he can do magic by accident.
He loves animals and has a lizard called Ed. He lives at home and Derik looks after him because their Dad is hardly ever there. He listens to everything Derik tells him, even if he doesn't always understand. Even if he doesn't understand he remembers everything Derik says. He still thinks their mum is coming back. He doesn't understand death. When Derik is at Hogwarts, Bennie is looked after by Mrs Clergy, a witch neibor of theirs. She is very fond of Bennie and loves to listen to everything he has leared from Derik about magical creatures. Magical creatures are the thing Bennie understands best.
Short Biography: Ever since he was small Derik has been getting himself into all sorts of trouble. Most of the time it's just small things or fights but occasionaly he will do something really stupid. Once when some muggles were picking on Bennie he lashed out at them and, even though he didn't use his wand, he managed to curse a few of them due to his anger. This has happened more than once, but Derik has managed to control his magic all the other times, resorting to punching and kicking instead. This is the reason Derik can't stand muggles. Derik is very protective of Bennie.
Derik's mother died just a year ago and he feels very guilty about it because it was techniquely his fault. He couldn't sleep one night and went downstairs to find something to do out of boredem. He ended up messing about with his mother's potions ingrediants but it got out of control. Arabella and Marcus heard Derik banging around downstairs and came to see what happened. When Arabella realised that Derik was in danger she pulled him out of the way, but didn't move quick enough herself and was killed by an explosion.
Personality: At home Derik is every bit the loving caring father and brother to Bennie. Bennie is his best friend as well as his brother and would go mad if he couldn't talk to him. Talking to Bennie, reading to him and playing Quidditch with him takes his mind of the death of his mother.
At school he is often a bully, but always regrets his actions. He can't seem to get out of the habit. Often he doesn't mean to bully people, he just has a bad temper and takes it out on whoever happens to get in his way. He gets bored of people easily, which means he spends a lot of time by himself wishing people were different. The only person he doesn't feel this way about is Bennie. When he's by himself he usually just sits and thinks about things, but sometimes he likes to paint. He is very careful about how he does this though because he would hate to be caught painting. He is embarrassed by the fact that he enjoys painting and has tried to give it up, but he likes it so much he can't seem to break the habit.
Some times he still cries about his mother. He has never told anybody the truth about her death, except Bennie who doesn't understand. His Father is the only one who knows the truth, as he witnessed it.
He longs to be pureblood like his mother and hates muggles because of his father. He doesn't seem to realise or care that this attitude is exactly the sort of thing his mother hated about wizards.
He is always very curious about things, especially if they have nothing to do with him. He has been known to rummage through peoples things just as a sort of game, to see if he can work out what sort of person they are by the type of socks they wear. If ever he overhears conversations that ought to be private he can't help but eavesdrop. This curiosity is the thing he hates most about himself, because of what happened with his mother, but its very hard to change your personalitly, no matter how hard he tries.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
"Peterson Derik!"
Derik gulped as he took the long walk up to the stool where the sorting hat lay. He felt a million eyes upon him as he made his way up the hall to where he was afraid he would meet his doom. The walk felt at least three times as long as it looked.
Please don't let me be in Hufflepuff! he prayed. I'll look so stupid!
He took another few steps forward, almost stumbling over his over large robe. He had deliberately gotten one a few sizes big so that if he grew he wouldn't need new ones so quickly, although the only thing that seemed to be growing at he moment were his feet.
He took his last steps forward and sat down on the stool, placing the battered hat on his head with shaking hands.
Oh God! He thought panicking. This is it!
Hmm, said a small thoughtful voice in his ear. A Malfoy if I'm not mistaken.
Sort of, thought Derik.
Yes no doubt about it, said the hat, sounding excited. You've a lot of Malfoy in you, yet a lot of the total opposite too. Interesting. That's a big heart you've got there, my lad, Although it may appear a bit tough to those who don't see as well as I do, but it's there all right. Hmm, quite smart, quite thoughtful too, but not a Ravenclaw.
Not a Hufflepuff either? thought Derik hopefully.
The hat gave a small laugh. You join the many who think that way, It said.
Derik couldn't decide wether that was a good thing or a bad thing.
Hmm, you'd do well in Gryffindor, mused the hat. But what with that muggle hatred of yours I don't think that's a good idea.
You wish to be pureblood, you wish you had no father, you can't understand why anyone could be proud to be a muggle. You are planning to drop your father's name and take the name of Malfoy instead. Interesting. reminds me of a boy I sorted many years ago. Name of Tom Riddle.
Derik's stomach lurched. Tom Riddle? He who must not be named? Was the hat saying that they were similar? Derik had long been in awe of the dark lord, the power he had had and the muggles he had killed. He had once considered maybe trying something himself, but the very next moment had been so horrifyed at himself that he had bashed his head against the wall of his bedroom, hoping to smash the bad thoughts out of it. He was a good person. He must be. At least, he wanted to be. Sometimes he worried that he wasn't turning out the way he wanted.
The hat didn't say anything to this, though Derik knew it must have heard him.
To the house of purebloods you go then, Derik. Half blood you may be but I think you will do well in Slytherin!
The hat shouted this last work for the entire hall to hear. There was resounding clapping and cheering from the table where the students wore silver and green ties. The cheers were challenged however by boos from the Gryffindor table.
As he sat down amongst the Slytherins, receiving many slaps on the back and "well done"s, he couldn't help feeling a pang in his heart as his mother's house booed and hissed at him. For a moment he thought he could see her shouting along with them, but it was only his imagination.
But as he held his Slytherin coloured tie in his hands that night in the dormitory he couldn't help but feel a little proud of himself. He'd done it! he'd got into Slytherin! Suddenly he was overcome with a wave of mixed emotions. He felt guilty at leaving behind Bennie with only rare visits from his father- how would he cope? Of course he would. He had Mrs Clergy after all. He felt a slight sadness that he wasn't in Gryffindor like his mother, whom he idolised and he suddenly fought an urge to throw his tie into the common room fire. What was he doing here? He felt ashamed of himself. What had he become? A bully, a thief, a liar, a cheat, a muggle-hater and a Slytherin. Would this be what his mother wanted?
No, said a little voice in his head. She'd be ashamed of you.
Derik climbed into his four poster and lay staring at his tie on the floor. He wasn't all bad was he?
"That's a big heart you've got there, lad," the sorting hat had said.
A tear rolled down Derik's cheek and into his pillow.
